Brennan - 18 Months

Tuesday was Brennan's 18 month appointment with Dr. Myers. It was perfect, timing since it turned out he had an ear infection - now he has to go back in a few weeks for his shots. Once again, he got a clean bill of health. He measures up as follows:

Weight: 28 lbs (95th percentile)
Height: 36 in (115th percentile)

We're not sure the 115th percentile is even mathematically possible, but we'll take the doctor's word for it. Some other tidbits on the little guy:

He loves eating most of the time, with noodle-based food (spaghetti in particular), rice (and beans), and potatoes his favorite foods. He likes peas, broccoli sometimes, but is hesitant to eat most other vegetables, and eats almost no meat. Maybe it's a consistency thing. He's a fan of most fruits, particularly oranges and bananas. He's also mastered using his spoon and fork, though it doesn't mean that mealtime is any less messy.

All of that is true of course unless, as is the case with most things, he's decided that he's made up his mind otherwise. In other words, he has a pretty powerful constitution, and can be pretty stubborn when he wants to be, and thinks he can do what he wants when he wants how he wants. That's probably 40% of the time, which makes things pretty challenging. But the 60% of the time he's sweet, he's super-sweet, full of hugs and kisses and is incredibly helpful around the house. His favorite pasttimes are picking up dust bunnies, random lint off of the carpets and fetching Audrey her water/milk, even when she's not interested. And he loves her to death, though he's not afraid to let her know when he needs his personal space (which she is intruding on about 75% of the time).

We're also thankful that he's finally developed an interest in books over the past few months. We do story time with both kids and night, but during the day he stills spends a good bit of time sitting and paging through them by himself. We're hopeful that this new focus on reading leads to some more talking, or more specifically, any talking at all. But so far he's been able to get by just fine by mastering "UH-uh" (No) and "Uh-HUH" (Yes). And by trying to drag us to whatever he wants us to see. We'll keep our fingers crossed for some more progress soon.
