Big Boy Bed!

Theresa bought a bed for Brennan a couple of weeks ago, but with fairly hectic weekends, we were waiting for the right time to put it together for him. With summer quickly approaching, and the new baby coming in a few months (seems crazy we only have 3 months to go), we wanted to give him ample time to adjust to the bed before we start making trips back and forth to the beach or we start getting sleep deprived. So, we decided to take the plunge on Sunday. The plan was to have it put together by the time he woke up from his last nap in the crib, but thanks to Ikea instructions and the 3 different boxes of parts, it took a little bit longer than expected It's actually a bunk bed (that can also be made into two twin beds), but because we don't trust either of the squirts to run amok with a bunk bed at this point, we decided to use just one twin bed for now. But that also means there were 2x the parts to sift through, all with an Ikea instruction manual that consisted of about 40 pages of nothing but pictures, showing roughly 3 different ways to put the whole thing together.

After a few hours we got the whole thing put together and up in his room. He seemed interested enough, but also confused why the crib was now in the spare room (we took it down completely with Audrey, which we might have done again had we remembered that). We were also a little nervous because any time we asked him if he wanted to sleep in a big boy bed, he would give us a firm "uh-uh", followed by a firmer "uh-UH" if we kept prying. Long story short, everything went relatively well. We did our best to make it special - read stories in his bed and put on his new Jake (and the Neverland Pirates) sheets. After a couple of attempts to escape while getting tucked in, he eventually relented. And we've managed to stay incident-free since - no escape attempts, no wandering the halls at night, no crying fits. He did fall out of bed once each of the first two nights (responsible parents might put rails up, but he has to learn eventually), but seems to be getting the hang of it. Hard to believe we've got a second kid out of his crib, and a 3rd on the way. We need time to slow down a little bit, or we're going to wake up one day at they'll all be off to college...
